I say this to further say that the original intent of wikis was not to act as an external marketing communication tool. There are not “pass along” mediums. The reason why so many of my classmates feel that wikis are the least effective marketing communication tool is because 1) they are trying to force them in a category that doesn’t fit 2) they are over generalizing the function of wiki with Wikipedia 3) they have not used a wiki effectively yet.

An overwhelming number of my classmates identified Facebook as the most effective medium and wikis as the least effective medium. My disagreement with their options were based on two separate issues- 1) know what is a tool 2) to effectively use a social medium as an effective marketing communication tool you have to know the purpose of a the tool.

Find a marketing short film online and critically evaluate the film as a marketing tool. Feel free to discuss anything you'd like about the film, but be sure to answer the following questions:

Was the film entertaining? Why or why not? Did the film more closely resemble a movie or an ad? Explain. Is the film effective from a marketing standpoint? Why or why not? Are short films that attempt to subtly sell products ethical? Why or why not?

Please provide a link to the short film you selected. Everyone must choose a different film.

This week’s discussion focused on short films. I must say that I am a little disappointed in some of the post this week that received raves about being great picks.

TEHRAN, May 24 -- Iran blocked access to Facebook on Saturday in what opposition candidates said was an effort to sabotage their challenges to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

I guess Iran’s president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad did learn a thing or two from President Obama. Iran’s recent cowardly move to block Facebook has stirred up much controversy.

The 101-year-old FBI has developed a teenage interest in new ways of staying in touch, announcing Friday that it is on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.

"To reach out to the public, we need to be where people are -- and we know tens of millions of people spend their time in social media sites," John Miller, head of FBI Public Affairs, said. "Adding our fugitives, missing kids, threat and scam warnings and other information into these sites is an extension of what we've done for decades -- enlisting the help and support of concerned citizens around the globe to keep communities safer."

Personally, I am thrilled to see the FBI using technology to fight and comeback crime. I get some of my Facebook alert and Tweets to my cell phone. I would subscribe to get this “friend’s” updates sent directly to my phone.
